Abstract

Drug interactions with food and beverages may reduce therapeutic effectiveness and increase the risk of adverse effects. Limited public knowledge regarding proper medication use is one of the factors contributing to these interactions. This community service activity aimed to improve public knowledge regarding proper medication use and drug–food interactions through a health promotion program. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. Health education was delivered through lectures supported by leaflets to 10 participants, followed by knowledge assessment using pretest and posttest questionnaires. The results showed that the mean pretest score increased from 52% to 90% in the posttest. Improvements were also observed across all questionnaire items, indicating increased participant understanding after the educational intervention. Health promotion using lectures supported by leaflets was effective in improving public knowledge regarding proper medication use and drug–food interactions. Similar educational activities may serve as an effective strategy to promote safe, effective, and rational medication use in the community.
